The 2011-2012 Burton Global Open Series presented by MINI kicked off in August with the New Zealand Open at Cardrona. Top riders from around the globe traveled down under to show off their latest tricks at one of the first major events of the season. The first of the MINI Creative Use of Space awards were given out, with honors going to Kjersti Buaas, Kohei Kudo, Stale Sandbech and Jaime Anderson. Next the series will travel to Laax, Switzerland for the legendary Burton European Open. After that, the tour hits Canada with the Canadian Open. Finally, the riders will head to Stratton, Vermont, where the BGOS Halfpipe and Slopestyle Champions will be crowned and the MINI Countrymans will be awarded to the top scoring overall BGOS riders.

Burton wants to thank MINI for being a global partner to the BGOS. MINI is throwing down in a big way, bringing a very cool MINI experience to each event and providing some very cool awards to the riders. Not only will four riders at each event come away with cash compliments of MINI (the MINI Creative Use of Space Award for HP and SS) but also at the end of the BGOS, the best slopestyle design team will walk with cash for designing the best MINI Creative Use of Space slopestyle feature. And to top it off, MINI will be presenting TWO MINI Countrymans at the USO....to the best overall BGOS male and female rider. Be sure to click on the MINI Awards tab in the info section to learn all about these important awards.

The BGOS is one of the most progressive competitive snowboard series in the world. With events scheduled year-round and in four countries, BGOS attracts the world’s best pro riders and amateurs alike – all throwing down for top honors in the slopestyle and halfpipe competitions. Since the beginning, the Opens have been driven by riders, for riders evolving with snowboarding and riders' needs over the years.
New this year, Burton will be crowning four BGOS Champions at the US Open! The top male and female Halfpipe and Slopestyle riders will each leave the US Open US$25,000 richer. All four BGOS events offer riders the chance to earn valuable points towards the BGOS Halfpipe and Slopestyle Championship titles.
Earning points is simple: Using the same points system as the TTR, riders are awarded points based on their final ranking in slopestyle and/or halfpipe at each of the individual BGOS events. A rider’s top two results (per each discipline – results across disciplines will not be added together) are then added together to create their final BGOS Halfpipe and/or Slopestyle standing. The male and female rider with the most points in HP and/or SS will be crowned the Halfpipe and Slopestyle Burton Global Open Champion at the 2012 US Open at Stratton, Vermont.
